Palestrina was once the home of a thriving community during the 7th century BC and the ancient Temple of Fortune was constructed in Palestrina more than 2,500 years ago.

The vast Temple of Fortune religious complex was rebuilt by the Romans in the 2nd century BC and stands on six terraced levels on the hillside. One of the main attractions in Palestrina is the Archaeological Museum (Museo Archaeologica Prenestino), which is famous for its truly breathtaking, highly-detailed mosaic of the River Nile.
